So....i used to be quite the traveler back in college. i studied abroad and also did a working internship at a design firm in London after graduation. Between the two summers, I visited the following places: France, Switzerland, Italy, Scotland, Germany, England, and Egypt. I collected postcards from each city and wrote my favorite things on the back. They've all been stuck on my parents fridge for the past 5 years.
Those were hands down the most special times in my life. I needed to include them in my new town home somehow so i decided i'd turn them into art :) You should know, no postcards were harmed in the making of this collage! they're too special to me so i made color copies of each one.
First step, cut out the postcards.
Next, get your frame. I used these shadow box style frames from ikea. i liked that they were already matted with a thick border. I took the matte board out and traced the opening on the backing piece. that way i knew my exact size and location where the postcards needed to be
Make sure you have a good spray mount. Cheaper ones wear off and peel quickly. Start spraying your postcards and placing them randomly on the backing piece.
Make sure to cover the square you traced completely. No spaces peeking out! :)
Once you're finished with that, you're done! Just put the matte board and backing piece back in the frame and close it. Easy easy easy :) and cheap too! only had to pay for the frames
Hope you liked my project! Let me know what you think :)

featured a 3rd time :D

What a terrific idea. I have all the postcards my sister sent me over the years when she was in the travel industry. I think the shadow box frame really makes it look like art.
