The reason there will be no doormat tutorial:

Ridiculous price alert!

54 cents a foot. Martha Stewart's tutorial says to make the door mat pictured above you'd need 165 feet of nylon rope. Let's do the math together: .54 x 165 = $89.10

there is absolutely no way i am going to waste $89.10 on a doormat...sorry kids.

I'm gonna search online for cheaper options bc home depot wasn't making the cut. if i find a way to make this doormat cheaper, I'll post the tutorial. Now i'm thinking i just might paint a doormat with a stencil. that'll be way more affordable. Stay tuned...

Roaring 20s party...and cake! :)

Hey everyone, just got back from a reaaaaaally fun party! My friends Sarah and Bart had another theme party, this time it was the roaring 20s. Here are some photos of how i made the cake. Since i've already done lots of fondant tutorials, i'll skip to the decorating part :)

first up, flapper fringe for the cake! All you have to do is roll out the fondant, cut a strip and begin cutting little slits....when you're done, add it to the cake with water

i added it onto the cake in 2 pieces to avoid the crease where the two meet

cut out some squares for the diamonds

they were a little too wide for what i wanted so i trimmed them down

move the fringe around so it seems like there's movement

Ta-Da! its done :) i got those feathers at Micheals in the masquerade section. I made the numbers at work and doused them some black glitter.

No 20s costume is complete without a facny cigarette holder...but i gotta keep the lungs clean so i bought some fake ciggs :)

Here is Sarah posing with her cake! She LOVED it, that made me really happy :)

that's me!

one last one of my best friend Ginny and i.....pretty fab

I love making cakes for friends because i get to go to the fun party! :) i highly recommend a roaring 20s party. There were signature cocktails and gambling in the "speak easy" room ....lots of fun music too! we had a blast :) HAPPY BIRTHDAY SARAH!!!

Let me know what you guys think :) one more of my flapper baby:

New baby booties!! :)

I'm up visitng my grandparents this weekend so i was saving this project for my grandma evvy :) sorry for the delay...i got a couple emails asking when! when will you sew the baby bootie?! well today is your lucky day because they are complete....and adorable!! Easier than the other style too!

I had my lovely dogter (my doggie daughter) Chloe model them since i dont have an actual baby...she's so cute!! Yes i have issues, i love my dog way too much...but i digress...

What you will need:
  • Felt square
  • 1/4 of a yard of your favorite fabric
  • 1/4 of a yard of iron on Fusible Web
  • Scissors
  • Pins
  • Velcro
  • Sewing machine or needle and thread if you're patient (i'm definitely not patient!)

Ok, so first you're going to follow the first couple of steps from the previous booties post.
Go there if you have no idea what i'm talking about.

Once you've adhered the fabric and felt together with the fusible web, start cutting your patterns. I bought this pattern from Sewing with me $4.50

Once your patterns are all cut out, its time to pin. Dont poke yourself 100 times like I did, its not fun. Also, when changing the sewing maching needle, dont drop it inside of the machine like i did :( i really shouldn't be allowed to own one. If i managed to make these look cute, you can too!

make sure the edges line up with each other. In order to make that happen i had to use a lot of pins. If the edges dont match up, the little booties are gonna look funny

once you're finished pinning, sew the two sides to the bottome of the booties. The seam allowance is 1/8" to 1/4 inch. If you suck at sewing like me, stick with 1/4" after i sewed the bootie, i trimmed the excess seam.

For the bow, i made a little hoop with the ribbon and pinched the middle down. i wrapped a small piece of ribbon around the pinched hoop and sewed it togehter so it would stay. Sew the finished little bow in place and your booties are complete :)

and now for my glamorous model Chloe showing off the finished product

close up!

i was featured! yay :)

i was featured again! double yay :D

and one more time!! triple yay :D

Wordless Wednesday - "it wasnt me!"

Upcoming Tutorials!

Hello everyone!! Just a little sneak preview of what's to come! I hope you all enjoyed the Minnie Mouse tutorials, I'm getting a lot of really great feedback. Thanks for all the lovely compliments, you guys make me happy :) I kinda feel like you all are a little baked out so i'm going to focus on some non baking projects...but only for a while bc i'm a baker too :)

The first project is this style of doormats I saw on etsy:

Love it! It will look great in my new place (if i ever make any progress with this stupid short sale!!! breathe jackie, breath!) The shop owner is super talented BUT i was seeing some $75-$110 price tags attached. I'm not cheap but I feel like maybe I can make it for less. If I fail completely, I will just post pictures of me tangled up in frustration for all of you to laugh at. Either way, you will be entertained: see a cool tutorial or point and laugh at Jackie's failed attempt at the prettiest doormat she's seen :D

And as you already know, I will be making the other style of baby booties I shared a while back. Here they are one more time:

So cute!!! I'll tell you where to get the pattern and show the step by step process. The goal is to get them half as cute as these little peep toe wonders! Ugh, love them!

Hope you're all doing well! i love being inspired by all of your gorgeous work, see you at the linky parties :)
