Mother's Day Present

This year for mother's day I decided to re-design my parents bathroom. I had to do so without them noticing so I only had 2 days and one night (they were away for the weekend). Sounds crazy huh? Well at the time I was working for a tv show on TLC called "Home Made Simple" (every Saturday at 12 pm eastern standard time). This means I was used to 3 day redesigns and all of the stress and deadlines that come with it.

Luckily I wasn't doing anything major. No tiles were being ripped out and all of the bathroom fixtures were staying. I'm not exactly rolling in dough so my gift couldn't be THAT extravagant. Plus their bathroom was pretty 80s so anything was an upgrade! ;)

Let the before and afters begin!

This was strictly a Target and Home Depot situation. Those are the only two stores I shopped at. Oops I lied, I also went to a fabric store for the cushion on the bench. I re-upholstered that myself by the way :)

Its amazing what new handles and some paint can do, huh? I didn't spend more than $200-$250 on this update. I love painting a stripe or two to add graphic interest. It makes such an impact with very minimal cost/effort.

And if you were wondering, my mom LOVED it! I think she even cried :)

  7. WOW it looks great! What paint color did you use in the bathroom! We are redoing our master bath in our new house and have come up with a blank on paint color. Our bath looks similar except for the little sitting bench.

  21. Okay this is my 3rd comment on your blog today I know, but I love the bathroom re-do!! What a nice gift for your parents. I need to know how you did the bench cushion, I need to do the bench window seat in our hallway!

  22. there was already an exhisting cushion on there. i just picked out some fabric and turned it inside out and started pinning and sewing. It took me forever because i'm not the best when it comes to sewing. If i could go back in time, i'd probably get a piece of wood or mdf and buy foam and badding and wrap/0staple gun it...is that ghetto?? lol

  26. Stunning. I'm not sure I would want to look at myself in the mirror getting in and out of the shower but that is just me and my mid-age body issues. :) Your room went from ordinary to extraordinary. Well done.
