I got the keys!

As you may have noticed, I have been lost for a while. Well I was busy closing on my new townhouse!!! I'm officially a home owner! It has been a LONG six months! I now understand why short sales put such a bad taste in everyone's mouth. They are HORRIBLE! But honestly, in the end it was worth it because i got my place for $110,000 CHEAPER than the previous owner paid, and all because it was a short sale. If you are able to put your life on hold for 4 to 6 months, you might want to consider it. Here she is in all of her adorable townhouse glory:

Next photo is of the patio, this photo was taken when the tenants were still living there, its all empty now. I'm going to change up the landscaping a bit and I'll get some cute new patio furniture....dont worry, I'll take photos every step of the way.

This is the first floor:

I just ordered new hardware for the kitchen and new appliances will be purchased once my wood flooring is installed....I'm holding off on changing the laminate counter tops because I'm quickly becoming poor and granite and stone are expensive, lol. They're pretty neutral so I can live with the laminate counter tops......for now

This is the guest bathroom....i don't have a pic of the master bathroom for whatever reason...similar setup but slightly bigger and its not a tub, just a shower with textured glass doors.

here's the pool:

Is she not the most adorable 2/2.5 you've ever seen?! :D

Stamped monogram cupcakes!

monogram cupcakes
Hello everyone! I hope you guys are having an amazing weekend, I know I am! Today I had a baby shower to bake for. The mommy to be ordered 50 chocolate chip cupcakes. She wasn't sure what she wanted so I suggested monogram cupcakes since the baby boy already had a name (Jacob).

A lot of the letter cookie/fondant cutters are cheesy. I knew I wanted these to look a little classier than a typical block lettering or a funky kiddy font. Don't me wrong, I use my block lettering and my funky kid lettering all the time (the minnie mouse cake), BUT the mommy to be likes simple and clean designs. I thought about a solution to this little dilemma and I decided to buy some stamps...like ink stamps. Worked like a charm, and so easy too!

For these cupcakes I had 4 supplies:

First I cut circles out of modeling chocolate, then i tried my new idea, and WOW! They looked great! These will be the background for my monogram decoration.

Now for the blue monogrammed disks. I used marshmallow fondant (I'll post a tutorial showing how to make this eventually) colored blue. I HATE kneading coloring into white fondant, but that's because I may very well be the laziest person on earth. THANKFULLY, it was only a small amount of fondant :) Knead, Knead, Knead until the coloring gel is completely mixed in and you have a nice even color.
I used a water bottle cap to cut the blue disks out. The water bottle cap was the PERFECT size for what i was looking for. Cheaper than buying another pack of circular cutters! After all the disks were cut out, i stamped my "J" stamp in the center of all. CUTE!

Now, the big question, to sprinkle or not to sprinkle?! I texted mommy to be asking her preference, she decided the more chocolate the better. We went the sprinkles route. For a simpler clean look ditch the sprinkles but they're gorgeous either way don't you think?

boxed and ready for delivery! Mommy to be loved them and gave me a $50 tip!!! Holy crap! that made my day. New crystal chandelier for my new casita here I come!

Tell me what you think! Pretty please?? :)

Hot fudge sunday cake! :)

Let me start off by saying this recipe is super easy! So easy you don't even need to use a mixer. If you're a fan of molten chocolate cakes but prefer something less rich, this is the cake for you. Its less chocolatey and more fudgy. If you have kids, they will LOVE this :) its messy, fudgy and delicious.

I was up visiting my grandmother for her birthday and I told her I'd make the dessert of her choice, she pulled an old betty crocker cook book and picked one of her favorites: Hot Fudge Sunday Cake!

Add flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, and salt to a bowl and mix

Once you've mixed all of the dry ingredients transfer them to a 9x9x2 square pan. My grandmother left hers at my house so we used a glass pan.

Next up, add milk, oil, and vanilla. Mix them together with the dry ingredients with a fork until smooth
Combine brown sugar and additional cocoa and sprinkle on top.
pour hot water over the mixture and its ready to bake!
Once you're done baking the cake for 40 minutes, take it out and serve hot. Once take the first scoop of cake you will notice the entire bottom of the cake is actually molten chocolate fudge! yuuuuum!
scoop out some cake, add a scoop of ice cream (we used fudge ice cream bars) and pour the hot fudge over the cake
now its time to eat!

Here's the recipe
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup cocoa
  • 1-3/4 cup hottest tap water
  • ice cream of your choice
Enjoy!

Postcard Art!

So....i used to be quite the traveler back in college. i studied abroad and also did a working internship at a design firm in London after graduation. Between the two summers, I visited the following places: France, Switzerland, Italy, Scotland, Germany, England, and Egypt. I collected postcards from each city and wrote my favorite things on the back. They've all been stuck on my parents fridge for the past 5 years.

Those were hands down the most special times in my life. I needed to include them in my new town home somehow so i decided i'd turn them into art :) You should know, no postcards were harmed in the making of this collage! they're too special to me so i made color copies of each one.

First step, cut out the postcards.

Next, get your frame. I used these shadow box style frames from ikea. i liked that they were already matted with a thick border. I took the matte board out and traced the opening on the backing piece. that way i knew my exact size and location where the postcards needed to be

Make sure you have a good spray mount. Cheaper ones wear off and peel quickly. Start spraying your postcards and placing them randomly on the backing piece.

Make sure to cover the square you traced completely. No spaces peeking out! :)

Once you're finished with that, you're done! Just put the matte board and backing piece back in the frame and close it. Easy easy easy :) and cheap too! only had to pay for the frames

Hope you liked my project! Let me know what you think :)
